Train Your Dog Well

Dogs are sitting or lying down as part for part of the behavior class.

Happy dogs have rules to guide them through life. Obedience training is one of the best things you can do for your dog or puppy… and yourself. Training opens up a line of communication between you and your dog. Effective communication is necessary to instruct your dog about what you want them to do from ‘stay’ so they don’t bolt out the door; ‘sit’ so they don’t jump up on the visitors; to ‘off’ so they stay off the furniture.

Dogs are social animals and without proper training, they will behave…well…like animals. They will soil your house, destroy your belongings, bark excessively, dig holes in your yard, fight with other dogs and even bite you. Nearly all behavior problems are perfectly normal canine activities that occur at an inappropriate time or place or are directed at the wrong thing. The key to preventing or treating behavior problems is learning to teach your dog to redirect their natural behavior to outlets that are acceptable in the domestic setting.

Obedience training is also an easy way to establish the social hierarchy. When your dog obeys a simple request of ‘come here, sit,’ they are showing compliance and respect for you. Most dogs love performing these tricks (obedience commands) for you which also pleasantly acknowledge that you are the one in charge.

What to look for when selecting a dog obedience training course for my dog?

  • Builds a strong owner-dog relationship, based on trust and mutual respect.
  • Gives me confidence in, and control of my dogs in any situation.
  • A venue to ensure I have a happy, outgoing dog that is properly socialized.
  • A program that works with my dog’s natural drives and instincts.
  • There is absolutely no cruelty or harsh “old school” training techniques. I know I do not have to “break a dogs spirit” in the training process.
